2015 Open Championship

Tough week.  Sunday was a strong finish with some nice dogs but after all was said and done, we lost just under 3.5 units for the week.  Paul Casey disappointed with a terrible weekend and a few bad bounces cost us in the early day head-to-heads.  Congratulations to Zach Johnson.  He went lights out to shut down Jordan Spieth’s bid for the Grand Slam and Oosthuizen’s bid for the back-to-back at St. Andrew’s.

Before the tournament began, I wrote:

How do you beat St. Andrews?  Hit it low and miss it left.  It is really that simple.  Hit it low and miss it left.

A little local knowledge helps but you really need to hit it far, keep it low and turn it left.  Rinse, repeat, pick up Claret Jug.

ZJ hits it low and he only knows how to hit it left.  He was trending through the Deere and his game matched our analysis.  We knew all this and still missed him because there were flashier names with bigger swings.  It just goes to show you how easy it is to outsmart oneself.  We’re running about even for the year (and I’m not happy about it).  We’ll make some noise in Whistling Straits in August.

Best of luck and keep it in the short grass.
