The 2015 Open Championship – Round 2

By | July 17, 2015

An uninspiring start for us, going 3-3 on the day.  The dogs helped but doubling up on Andy Sullivan hurt.  Down one unit going into two exciting days of awful weather.   Personally, I’m looking forward to the Fowler weekend wardrobe selections.  Just when I thought his hats and orange pants reached the pinnacle of ridiculousness, he busts out a rain suit that looked like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man started performing with the Blue Man Group.

Not a lot of surprises today.  The morning and afternoon flights played drastically different golf courses and those able to capitalize on the early draw have a real advantage on the field as all day tomorrow and Saturday look to be miserable playing conditions.  Tiger looked good on the range, then he chunked his tee shot on #1 and I wrote off all the Tiger action.  He looked lost and frustrated.  The horseshoe on #2 took the life out of him and the world greatest grinder appeared disinterested.  Meanwhile, DJ missed a short one on #1 and showed us just how short his memory can be as he played the next 17 holes in a dominant 7-under.  Plus, he drove the ball wherever he wanted.  Spieth was impressive through 9 then cooled a bit but still finished two shots off the lead.  (Kudos to Andy North for calling the short miss and pointing to all of us that Spieth is ranked among the Tour’s worst when putting from 4 to 8 feet.  Interesting stat coupled with a great analysis of his stroke.  NBC — you might want to trade Johnny Miller for Andy North…)  Oosthuizen impressed along with several others.  Goosen had to play his way in and like make qualifiers, demonstrated how badly he wanted to be there by shooting 6-under.

The day one leaderboard is full of chalk, notables and relative unknowns.  Everyone put on the mud caulks tomorrow and let’s get sloppy…

Fowler -106 over Rose (2 units)

Horschel +101 over Dubuisson

Poulter +125 over B Watson

Mannasero +101 over Clarke

Luiten +100 over An

Wiesberger +100 over Fleetwood

Kaymer +145 over Scott

Mahan +123 over Donald

Palmer -106 over Kisner

Best of luck,

plusfours
