The 2016 Open Championship — Recap

By | July 18, 2016

What a finish!  Stenson and Mickelson exchanged birdies all day and when the dust settled, Phil shot 65 and lost.  Tough pill to swallow but there’s not much you can do when a guys drops a 63 on Sunday.  Kudos to Henrik.  Well-earned and well-deserved victory.  For Phil, another hard-fought and disappointing second place.

The tournament as a whole provided some surprise and some disappointment.  Confidence plagued, high ball hitter Bill Haas shocked us with a top five.  High EV plays disappointed and Chris Wood hurt us with a WD.  Saturday and Sunday gave back the gains of Thursday and Friday; when I totaled it up, I was upset to see a net loss of 4.5 units.  Particularly frustrating was the fact that we lost both two unit bets and we only hit one of the four big underdog plays on the weekend.  Good news is that we’re at Baltusrol in two weeks and there is ample opportunity to get it back.  Until then, keep it in the fairway…
